Saskatchewan Rush Players Make Return Visit to Pediatrics

Kids in hospital got a chance to participate in TD Children’s Hospital Game Week with the Saskatchewan Rush when players stopped by both the Acute Care Pediatrics Ward and Maternal Services in Saskatoon for a visit.

Joined by Saskatchewan Rush mascot Bruiser, Captain Chris Corbeil and goalie Aaron Bold played an impromptu game of lacrosse in the ward’s playroom, posed for photos, played games, visited with children and families and went room to room to visit children not well enough to leave their beds.  Kids in the ward received Saskatchewan Rush lacrosse sticks, balls, jerseys, and glasses, along with iTunes gift courtesy of TD.

This is the second time the team has visited while partnering with TD Canada to raise money for the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. Fundraising culminates at the Rush’s home game on Saturday, February 25th against the Calgary Roughnecks in what’s being billed as Super Heroes Night.”

“The mandate of the Rush is to give back to the community, as such, we are thrilled to partner together with two great organizations, TD and the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan on ‘Super Heroes Night’.  The children currently admitted to pediatric departments across Saskatchewan are real-life super heroes and our players will be honouring them by wearing the jerseys during the game, as we rally our fans together to help raise money for their amazing cause,” says Andrea Haughian, Vice President, Marketing and Partnerships for the Saskatchewan Rush.

Fans can get involved by bidding on custom game worn, autographed super hero jerseys found on the Official Rush Facebook auction page with all proceeds benefiting the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan.  Nearly 40 TD volunteers will be on hand to greet fans at the game and fundraise selling glow-in-the-dark “power shade” sunglasses for $10.

“TD is very proud to once again support the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. At TD, we believe that one of the best ways that we can support our communities is by investing in children’s health,” says Ryan Barclay, District Vice-President  Saskatchewan, TD Bank. “TD believes that every child deserved the opportunity to live life to its fullest.”

Last year’s first ever Children’s Hospital Game Night raised approximately $22,000.

“We are so pleased to partner with community super heroes like TD and the Saskatchewan Rush to honour our youngest real life heroes, pediatric patients across the province,” says Brynn Boback-Lane, President and CEO of the Children’s Hospital Foundation of Saskatchewan. “Your support of community events like “Super Heroes Night” help ensure that Saskatchewan kids and families in need get the care they deserve both now and in the future when the doors open on our new Children’s Hospital of Saskatchewan.”

In addition to Game Night festivities, the Rush and TD are donating a free toddler jersey to every baby born in Saskatoon on a Rush Game Day for the remainder of the 2017 regular season, which wraps up on April 22nd.  New babies will receive the jerseys during their stay in Maternal Services.

“A jersey for every child born on game day is such a fun and special way to welcome Saskatchewan babies into the world,” says Boback-Lane. “We’re grateful to the Saskatchewan Rush and TD for helping us usher in the next generation of little sports fans, all while raising awareness as to how everyone can help support the youngest citizens of our province with critically needed medical equipment.”

The online jersey auction wraps up on Sunday, February 26th at noon.
