Director of Development

Reporting to the President & CEO, the Director of Development is responsible for the overall management of the organization’s development program, including major gifts program and annual giving.
The Director will manage a robust portfolio of prospects and an internal fundraising team. The successful candidate will work closely with the Communications and Finance teams to create and execute the development plan, goals and strategy to meet fundraising targets.
This individual will develop fundraising strategies and oversee all aspects of the fundraising programs with the desire to exceed strategic, operational and capital needs of the CHFS . He or she is responsible for the successful implementation of the major gifts fundraising stream for both individuals and business through research, cultivation, stewardship and recognition programs. This position is also responsible for leading assigned development staff that will work on other aspects of fundraising, inclusive of event planning and execution.
Qualification requirements are a degree in a related field and/or Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) designation is an asset. A minimum of five years experience in strategic planning, developing, implementing and managing sales or fundraising programs, including supervision of staff in achieving identified results and financial management. Knowledge of public sector, non-profit organizational operations and related government relationships. Demonstrated ability to build and foster effective relationships with donors, sponsors, volunteers and staff. Direct experience in organizing, planning and staging a variety of highly visible public events and programs. Well-developed organizational, administrative skills as well as ease with public speaking and presentation techniques. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, including the ability to create a persuasive case to gain support for key projects. Ability to maintain a high level of professionalism, discretion and confidentiality related to Foundation operations. Creative, resourceful and able to meet tight deadlines.
Provincial travel is required along with some evening and weekend work. Salary and benefits will be commensurate with experience.
